Sizes
Cotton Ball Sizes: Weight, Diameter and Count
We make and quote cotton balls by weight per ball. These are the sizes we make most often, with the approximate number of balls in a 100 g and a 500 g bag.
| Ball weight | Diameter, about | Balls per 100 g | Balls per 500 g |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.3 g | 2 cm (0.8 in) | ≈330 | ≈1,700 |
| 0.5 g | 2.5 cm (1.0 in) | ≈200 | ≈1,000 |
| 1 g | 3 cm (1.2 in) | ≈100 | ≈500 |
| 2 g | 3.5 cm (1.4 in) | ≈50 | ≈250 |
| 3 g | 4 cm (1.6 in) | ≈33 | ≈170 |
Cotton balls are soft, so diameters are approximate. Counts are worked out from the ball weight. If you sell by count, we pack a set number of balls per bag, such as 100 or 500.
Small, Medium, Large or Jumbo?
Shops sell cotton balls as small, medium, large or jumbo, but these names are not a standard: brands use different weights for the same name. That is why we quote by grams per ball. Send us the weight you buy now, or a few balls from your current pack, and we match them.
Any weight from 0.1 g to 3 g
The table shows our most common sizes, but we can make any ball weight between 0.1 g and 3 g, such as 0.4 g, 1.5 g, 2.5 g or 2.6 g.
